According to data from Arkham, which analyzes cryptocurrencies, as of the 20th, the North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group is believed to hold Bitcoin worth over approximately 170 billion yen.
This ranks third in the world, following approximately 2.5 trillion yen held by the U.S. government and approximately 600 billion yen in criminal proceeds seized by the British government.
North Koreas Lazarus Group is believed to have been involved in an incident last month where approximately 225 billion yen worth of cryptocurrency Ethereum was stolen from one of the worlds largest exchanges, Bybit, and it is believed that this profit was converted into Bitcoin.
According to the National Police Agency, TraderTraitor within the Lazarus Group launched a cyberattack on Japans DMM Bitcoin in May last year, illegally siphoning off cryptocurrency worth 48.2 billion yen.
