警察は、現場周辺に残されていたパイプなどを回収して当時の詳しい状況を調べています。

21日午後6時前、長野県須坂市で走行中の長野電鉄の列車に強風で飛ばされたとみられる小屋のようなものが衝突して窓ガラスが割れ、長野市の会社員、栗原雄二さん(56)が死亡しました。
On the evening of the 21st, just before 6 p.m., in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, an object resembling a shed, believed to have been blown away by strong winds, collided with a Nagano Electric Railway train in motion, breaking a window. Yuji Kurihara, a 56-year-old company employee from Nagano City, was killed.
また、65歳と56歳のいずれも公務員の男性2人が頭に軽いけがをしました。

列車は、長野駅方面に向かっていた3両編成の普通列車で、警察によりますと事故当時、3人はいずれも先頭車両に乗っていたということです。
The train was a three-car local train heading toward Nagano Station, and according to the police, all three people were in the front car at the time of the accident.
また、現場付近からはパイプなどが見つかり回収したということです。

21日の長野県は湿った空気や気温の上昇の影響で大気の状態が非常に不安定になり、夕方には須坂市付近を発達した雨雲が通過していました。

当時、須坂市を含む長野県北部に「竜巻注意情報」が発表されていて警察は、周辺にあった小屋のようなものが強風で飛ばされて列車に衝突したとみて詳しい状況を調べています。
