The Japan Sumo Association has decided to hold an extraordinary board meeting regarding Onosato, who has won two consecutive championships as an Ozeki at the Grand Sumo Summer Tournament, making his promotion to Yokozuna certain.

Since the rank of yokozuna was officially established in the banzuke in 1909 Meiji 42, promotion in just 13 tournaments from debut is the fastest record.

Dainosato, who was aiming for promotion to yokozuna this tournament, continued his winning streak from the first day, achieving a personal best of 13 consecutive wins. On the 13th day, he claimed his fourth championship overall and his second consecutive championship as an ōzeki.

Although he lost to Yokozuna Hoshoryu on the final day, he ultimately finished with an excellent record of 14 wins and 1 loss.

The judging department of the Japan Sumo Association, which is in charge of discussions regarding promotion to yokozuna, requested Chairman Hakkaku to hold an extraordinary board meeting for Onosatos promotion to yokozuna, and the chairman decided to hold the meeting.

The Japan Sumo Association will consult the Yokozuna Deliberation Council on the 26th regarding Oonosatos promotion to Yokozuna, prior to the extraordinary board meeting on the 28th of this month.

The Yokozuna Deliberation Council has an internal rule that states, as a condition for recommending a wrestler for promotion to yokozuna, winning two consecutive tournaments as an ozeki or achieving equivalent results. In the past, there has never been a case where a wrestler who won two consecutive tournaments was not promoted to yokozuna, so Oonosatos promotion to yokozuna is now certain.

The promotion to yokozuna after just 13 tournaments since the initial debut is the fastest record since yokozuna was officially established as a rank on the banzuke in 1909 Meiji 42.
