The White House in the United States has launched a new website emphasizing the possibility that the origin of the novel coronavirus may have leaked from a Chinese laboratory.
ホワイトハウスが18日に公開したウェブサイトは「研究所からの流出・コロナウイルスの真の発生源」と題したもので、あわせてトランプ大統領の写真も掲載されています。
The website released by the White House on the 18th is titled Lab Leak: The True Origin of the Coronavirus, and it also features a photo of President Trump.
この中で「コロナウイルスは自然界には存在しない特徴を持っている」とか、「中国の武漢にある研究所では不十分な安全レベルで研究を行っていたことがある」などと記載しているほか、武漢の衛星写真を掲載し「研究所に関係した事故が発生源である可能性がもっとも高い」と強調しています。
In this, it states that the coronavirus has characteristics not found in nature and that research was conducted at inadequate safety levels at a laboratory in Wuhan, China. It also includes satellite images of Wuhan and emphasizes that an accident related to the laboratory is the most likely origin.
また、感染予防として、マスクの着用が有効だという決定的な証拠はないとも主張しています。

ホワイトハウスは、議会下院の新型コロナウイルスに関する委員会がまとめた報告書から情報を引用したとしていますが、有力紙ワシントン・ポストなどは議会の報告書は、共和党が主導して作成したものだと指摘しているほか、発生源については、情報機関や専門家の見方も一致していないと伝えています。
The White House cites information from a report compiled by the House of Representatives committee on the novel coronavirus, but major newspapers like The Washington Post point out that the congressional report was created under the leadership of the Republican Party and note that intelligence agencies and experts do not agree on the source of the outbreak.
