When Megumi Yokota, who was abducted by North Korea in her first year of junior high school, was hoping for an early return, her classmates planted a cherry tree on the grounds of their alma mater in Niigata City on the 10th.
横田めぐみさんは中学1年生だった1977年11月に、学校から帰る途中で北朝鮮に拉致されました。
In November 1977, Megumi Yokota, who was a first-year junior high school student, was abducted by North Korea on her way home from school.
この7か月ほど前、入学したばかりの中学校の敷地で撮影された満開のサクラを背景にしためぐみさんの写真は警察の公開捜査でも使われ、広く知られていますが、帰国を果たせないまま半世紀近くがすぎ、サクラの木の中には花が咲かなくなったものもあるということで、10日、めぐみさんの同級生たちが早期の帰国を願って木の近くに新たにサクラの苗木を植えました。
Seven months ago, a photo of Megumi taken against the backdrop of cherry blossoms in full bloom on the grounds of the middle school she had just entered was used in a police public investigation and became widely known. However, nearly half a century has passed without her return, and some of the cherry trees no longer bloom. On the 10th, Megumis classmates planted new cherry saplings near the trees, wishing for her early return.
植えたのはめぐみさんと両親、2人の弟にちなんだ5本の苗木で、「めぐみさんの早期帰国を祈って」と書かれたプレートも設置しました。
Five saplings were planted in honor of Megumi-san, her parents, and her two younger brothers, with a plaque that reads Praying for Megumi-sans early return.
このあと、同級生たちはめぐみさんの母親の早紀江さんにも電話で報告し、早紀江さんは「同級生が植えたサクラが美しく咲くときに、『めぐみちゃんが元気で帰ってきてよかったね』とみんなに言ってもらえるように、政府には命がけで拉致被害者を取り返してもらいたい」と話していました。
After this, Megumis classmates also reported to her mother, Sakie, over the phone, and Sakie said, When the cherry blossoms planted by her classmates bloom beautifully, I hope everyone can say, Its great that Megumi-chan is back safely. I want the government to make every effort to bring back the abductees.
小学校と中学校の同級生、池田正樹さんは「めぐみさんにあすにでも帰ってきてほしい。
