The government plans to launch a team consisting of relevant ministries on the 11th to fully prepare for negotiations.

President Trump of the United States announced the suspension of the reciprocal tariffs measure for 90 days.

However, Japan will continue to face a reciprocal tariff of 10% and tariffs of 25% on automobiles and steel.

We will continue to ensure necessary support such as financial assistance, taking into account the impact on domestic industries, he said.

The government intends to continue strongly urging for a review of the measures, and Minister for Economic Revitalization Akazawa, who is in charge of the negotiations, is coordinating to visit the United States as early as next week to meet with Treasury Secretary Bessent.

The government will establish a team on the 11th, led by Minister Akazawa and Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi, consisting of relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

According to government officials, the members who strategized under Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi during the Japan-U.S. summit held in February 2025 will be at the center, and preparations are being made to analyze the fields prioritized by the U.S. side and identify negotiation materials.

In addition, the government plans to hold the second meeting of the comprehensive task force with the participation of all ministers, and it is expected to reaffirm its commitment to respond as a united government, including support for domestic industries.
