The Osaka-Kansai Expo, with participation from 158 countries and regions, opened on the 13th.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo, themed Designing a Future Society for Our Lives to Shine, opened on April 13 with the participation of 158 countries and regions and seven international organizations, holding opening ceremonies at domestic and international pavilions.

At the opening event attended by the producers of the eight pavilions themed on life, a ceremony was held where red and blue ropes, representing the Expo colors, were tied together as one to express that the eight pavilions are united as one.

This times Expo will feature domestic and international pavilions showcasing moving mini hearts made from iPS cells, the latest androids, humanoid robots equipped with AI artificial intelligence, and will promote next-generation technologies aimed at solving social issues, as well as tradition and culture, over a period of six months.

On the other hand, the organizers initially aimed for a no-queue Expo this time.

However, on the 13th, when more than 140,000 visitors were expected, people heading to the venue were left waiting for long periods in the rain in an open area near the east gate of the venue and the Osaka Metro Yumeshima Station, with no shelter from the rain and wind. Additionally, people leaving the venue formed long lines over 100 meters long as they waited to be guided into the station.

In addition, there were complaints from attendees about the lack of places to shelter from the rain and wind inside the venue.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo is expecting 28.2 million visitors over six months, but balancing attracting visitors and smooth operations remains a challenge.
