The central May Day rally of the labor organization Rengo was held, and a declaration was adopted stating that efforts must be made to correct disparities and ensure appropriate price pass-throughs, so that wage increases can be extended to small and medium-sized enterprises as well.

Approximately 29,200 people participated in the Rengo May Day Central Rally held at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya, Tokyo, according to the organizers, and Prime Minister Ishiba also attended.

In this context, Rengo President Yoshino said, In this years spring labor negotiations, even small and medium-sized enterprises achieved a higher wage increase rate than last time, and the wage gap is definitely narrowing.

Raising salaries is a way of respecting the value and dignity of workers.

He appealed, Although anxiety tends to grow due to disruptions in the global economy caused by the Trump tariffs and other factors, lets work together to maintain peace.

They adopted a May Day declaration stating that disparities between companies of different sizes, employment types, and genders must be rectified, and that appropriate price pass-throughs and fair trading practices must be thoroughly implemented to expand wage increases to small and medium-sized enterprises and companies without labor unions.

The declaration also included goals such as protecting workers employment and livelihoods, abolishing nuclear weapons, and achieving lasting world peace in this year, which marks 80 years since the end of the war.

A man in his 40s who works for a participating telecommunications company said, With the increase in remote work, the way we work is changing, so I want to ask not only for higher wages but also for improvements in the work environment.

Also, a man who serves as an executive in the railway companys labor union said, Wages have been rising, but they dont match the soaring prices.

I want to work so that workers can live with peace of mind through May Day, he said.

On the 1st of next month, the central rallies for May Day organized by Zenroren and Zenrokyo will also be held.
