White owl wins first place in Nagano Zoo’s ‘Animal Election’
Suzaka city zoo in Nagano prefecture hosts an anual popularity contest for the animals known as the ‘animal election’.
This year 13 animals, including a penguin and a bear, took part in the election.
After 3080 people voted, including visitors to the zoo, a white owl called Moose was declared the winner.
On the 23rd, the zoo held a ceremony during which Moose was presented with a certificate to commemorate their victory.

Moose is a cute and popular 9 year old white owl.
Moose came to Suzaka city zoo from a zoo in Akita prefecture in July of last year. This year marks the first time the owl has been entered in the ‘animal election’.
From next month, Moose will be involved in the PR for the zoo. The owl will be featured on zoo tickets and events involving Moose will be held throughout the year.
Children visiting the zoo congratulated Moose and told him to continue doing his best.
