Wimbledon Tennis Championships: Stop using line judges and use machines

テニスの大おおきな大会たいかいの1ひとつ、イギリスのウィンブルドン選手権せんしゅけんで、線審せんしんという審判しんぱんがいなくなることになりました

One of the biggest tennis tournaments, the Wimbledon Championships in England, will no longer have a line judge.

線審せんしんは、ボールがコートの線せんから出でたかどうか、「イン」か「アウト」かを、目めで見みて決きめる人ひとです

A linesman is a person who visually determines whether the ball leaves the court line and whether it is ”in” or ”out.”

これからは、たくさんのカメラで、ボールが落おちた場所ばしょなどを調しらベて、機械きかいで決きめます

From now on, we will use many cameras to examine the location where the ball landed, and then use a machine to determine where the ball landed.

今いままでは、2週間しゅうかんの大会たいかいの間あいだ、300人にんぐらいが線審せんしんをしていました

Until now, around 300 people served as line judges during the two-week tournament.

線審せんしんが決きめたことに選手せんしゅが意見いけんを言いう「チャレンジ」のときだけ、機械きかいを使つかっていました

The machines were only used during ”challenges,” in which players gave their opinions on the linesman’s decisions.

この機械きかいは、来年らいねんから使つかいます

I will be using this machine from next year.
