3,000 fewer Japanese students going to America
The number of Japanese people who go to the United States by obtaining a "student visa" to attend American universities is decreasing.
According to US data, the number of Japanese people who went to the US on student visas in 2025 was about 26,000, which is about 3,000 fewer than in 2024.
U.S. President Trump has tightened the screening process for issuing student visas.
The number of visas issued has also decreased.
A Japanese woman who was planning to attend university in the United States was unable to schedule an interview to obtain a visa.
