Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture: A 60-year-old firefighter can become a bus driver
Starting from April next year, Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, will allow firefighters in the city to become bus drivers after they reach the age of 60 and stop working.
The decision was made together with bus company Mie Kotsu.
The age at which people who work at prefectural and city government offices will stop working is gradually increasing, reaching 65 in the future.
However, firefighters’ work, which involves putting out fires and transporting sick people, can be difficult to continue as they get older.
