2026 in Japan: new changes and long break
In 2026, it is a year of big changes in Japan
for example, the new cell phone number (60) is being used
It’s because people owning smartphones are now becoming bigger and (cell phone) numbers are starting to become insufficient
Then, private rooms on the Toukaidou bullet train are being used once again
That has been 23 years
Private rooms are more expensive than Green Cars but appear to be popular for people wanting to work or people who want to take a long break
Bike rules are also changing
Starting in April 2026, there will be a fine of 12000 yen if you ride a bike while looking at your phone
There is a 5000 yen fine if you wear headphones, open an umbrella, and don’t turn on your light when riding
For safety, rules will become strict
Furthermore, for 2026 there will be a five day break twice
May is Golden Week and September is Silver Week
For Golden Week, there are people who can take breaks for 12 days
This long of a break will not happen until 2032
