Japanese detained in Myanmar charged over rice sales price

A Japanese man who was detained in Myanmar over the sale price of rice has been indicted and a trial will be held on the 12th.
Hiroshi Kasamatsu (53), an executive at a local subsidiary of major distribution company Aeon, was arrested by Myanmar authorities last month for selling rice at a higher price than the regulations.
He was interrogated at a police station in Yangon, the largest city, but according to the local Japanese embassy, he was indicted on the 11th.
He says he has no health problems.
According to military sources, Kasamatsu’s trial is scheduled to be held on the 12th.
He could be sentenced to up to three years in prison, and there is a risk that his detention will be prolonged.
The Japanese Embassy continues to request the local authorities for Mr. Kasamatsu’s early release.
