US GM to end production of Chevrolet Malibu; manufacturing plants will be reorganized for EV production

General Motors (GM) will end production of its flagship sedan, the Chevrolet Malibu, in November of this year.
GM revealed
The Kansas City, Kansas, U.S. factory that manufactures the Malibu will be reorganized to manufacture the new Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle.

With the end of production of the Malibu, GM will only sell trucks, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and the two-seater Chevrolet Corvette under the Chevrolet brand in the U.S. market.
競合であるフォードも数年前に同様の動きを見せていた
Competitor Ford made a similar move several years ago.
Ford has discontinued production of sedans such as the Taurus and Fusion, leaving only the two-seater Mustang in its traditional car lineup.
Production of the Chevrolet Camaro, which was a competitor to the Mustang, was also announced to be discontinued last year.

The Malibu was introduced in the 1960s as a higher-end model of the Chevrolet Chevelle, and became its own brand in the 1970s.
