China and Thailand have agreed to mutually waive visa requirements for stays of up to 30 days.
The number of Chinese tourists to Thailand is expected to increase
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is visiting Bangkok, signed a mutual visa exemption agreement with Thailand on the 28th.
From March 1st, ordinary passport holders will be able to visit each other’s countries without a visa for up to 30 days.
Due to the visa exemption, Thai authorities predict that 8 million Chinese tourists will visit Thailand in 2024, resulting in an economic impact of approximately 1.3 trillion yen.
China has also agreed with Malaysia and Singapore to waive visas for short-term stays of 30 days.
On the other hand, Japan is requesting the resumption of visa exemption measures for short-term stays of 15 days that China had granted, but China is not allowing this to be resumed as it is also requesting ”equal measures” from Japan.
