Thailand withdraws discovery of large-scale lithium deposit

The Thai government has withdrawn its announcement last week that lithium deposits with reserves of nearly 15 million tons have been discovered in the country.
On the 19th, it was announced that lithium deposits had been discovered in two locations in southern Phang Nga province, with reserves estimated at 14.8 million tons.
However, a government spokesperson corrected the following day on the 20th, saying that what had been discovered was 14.8 million tons of mineral resources, including lithium mica.

The government posted on Facebook that ``this mineral resource contains approximately 0.45% lithium oxide.’’
With this amount of lithium, ``we could manufacture 50 kilowatt-hour batteries for about 1 million electric vehicles (EVs).’’
