US changes child vaccination schedule
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has updated its childhood immunization schedule.
From now on, fewer vaccines will be recommended.
Vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox and HPV are still recommended.
However, vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus, meningococcal, hepatitis B, and hepatitis A are only recommended for children at high risk.
Parents will now be able to decide whether or not to receive influenza, coronavirus, and rotavirus vaccines in consultation with their doctor.
Vaccine costs will still be covered by health insurance, but there are some vaccines that healthy children cannot receive without consulting a doctor.
This may be a new problem for parents
In the United States, the number of influenza patients has increased significantly this season.
