Britain's Daily Mail reported on the 3rd that Mr. Kelly placed an iPhone charging cord up his nose and sent a fake photo of himself using a medical oxygen device to trick his victims into believing he was a cancer patient.

As a result, he was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison for collecting approximately 69 million yen in donations for cancer treatment costs and embezzling this money.

Mr Kelly played an active role in the Kilkenny hurling team in the 1990s and early 2000s, winning five All-Ireland titles and nine All-Star awards, and has been highly regarded in the Irish sporting world.
