Tokyo Marathon runner category “Non-binary” added
``Non-binary’’ will be added as a category for general runners to enter in the ``Tokyo Marathon’’ to be held in March next year.

This was decided at a board meeting held on the 24th by the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, which organizes the event.
According to the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, in order to meet the diversifying needs of participants, the category for general runners to enter for the Tokyo Marathon next March will be ``non-gender’’, which does not limit their self-identified gender to male or female. This means adding ”binary”
The participant list and records will be displayed as ``male,’’ ``female,’’ and ``non-binary.’’
According to the foundation, non-binary options have already been introduced in all overseas races of the world’s six top races, the World Marathon Majors, including the Tokyo Marathon.
There are also cases where non-binary options are available at domestic tournaments.
The Tokyo Marathon Foundation says, ``We respect the diversity and identity of participants and aim to be the most open marathon in the world.’’
