Google is increasing its investment into South East Asia, putting 1 billion USD into Thai data centre

アルファベット傘下さんかのグーグルは、東南とうなんアジアでのデジタル投資とうしを拡大かくだいするため、タイの新あらたなクラウドコンピューティングとデータセンターインフラの構築こうちくに10億おくドル（約やく1440億円おくえん）を投とうじると発表はっぴょうした

Alphabet subsidiary Google announced that it is investing 1 billion USD (about 144 billion JPY) into construction of cloud computing and data centre infrastructure in Thailand, as part of its increasing digital investment in South East Asia.

グーグルは9月がつ30日にちの声明せいめいで、バンコクとタイ東部とうぶのチョンブリー県けんでデジタルインフラ施設しせつを開発かいはつする予定よていだと発表はっぴょうした

In a statement issued on 30 September, Google announced its plans to develop digital infrastructure in Bangkok and eastern Thailand's Chonburi province.

このプロジェクトは、人工知能じんこうちのう（AI）アプリケーションへのアクセスを向上こうじょうさせ、タイ国民こくみんにデジタルスキルを提供ていきょうすることを目的もくてきとしている

The objective of the project is to improve access to artificial intelligence (AI) applications and to equip the Thai population with digital skills.

デロイトの最近さいきんの調査ちょうさによると、グーグルのタイでの最新さいしんの投資とうしは、2029年ねんまでにタイのGDPを40億おくドル押おし上あげる効果こうかが見込みこまれ、2025年ねんから2029年ねんにかけて年間平均ねんかんへいきん1万まん4000人にんの雇用こようを創出そうしゅつする可能性かのうせいがあるという

According to a recent Deloitte report, Google's recent investment into Thailand is expected to add 4 billion USD to the country's GDP, and is likely to create an average of 14000 jobs per year.

The Bangkok and Chonburi facility responds to the growing demands of cloud computing and AI innovation, and at the same time, is expected to accelerate the increased usage of digital services of the same company that offers the like of search, apps, and Google Workspace.

Google also announced in June that, in partnership with Thailand's Gulf Energy, it will offer Google Distributed Cloud in Thailand.

The companies have plans to develop added services in the Google Cloud ecosystem, and also intend to develop AI and cybersecurity solutions in the future.

In addition to its efforts in Thailand, Google has started construction of a 2 billion USD data centre and cloud computing infrastructure in Elmina Business Park in the northern part of Kuala Lumpur in the state of Selangor.

In the context of the increasing importance of South East Asia, to strengthen its investment in this region, Google announced in June that it plans to increase the amount of its investment into its Singapore data centre, as well as cloud computing infrastructure, to more than 5 billion USD.

This represents more than a five-fold increase compared to the 850 million USD investment from 2018.

In particular, in Malaysia, which has become the fastest growing data centre hub in the region, Malaysia's YTL Power is partnering with Nvidia with the intention of building a data centre for applications of AI in the southern Malaysian state of Johor, which is to the north of Singapore.
