More people donate to Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture through “hometown tax”
On August 22nd, the government decided to release water treated at Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean.
After this, the number of people who donated to Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture through the ”hometown tax” has increased.
Before it was decided, there were about 40 cases a day, but after it was decided, the number has increased to over 300.
Previously, the amount of money donated was around 900,000 yen per day, but after the decision was made, the amount donated increased to over 5.2 million yen.
Popular thank-you items received when donating include dried fish caught near Iwaki City.
The person at the store who sent thank-you items said, ``I’m surprised that the number has increased so much.’’
Sometimes people call me and say, ``We’re rooting for you’’ or ``Please send me something from Iwaki.’’
