Autumn salmon fetched high prices at first auction
The first auction of autumn salmon was held on the 3rd at a market in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
A total of about 1 ton of salmon, each weighing between 2 kg and 4 kg, was lined up at the market.

The most expensive salmon was 88,888 yen for 1kg.
The price is more than three times that of last year.
The person who bought this salmon said, ``I think autumn has come.’’
I decided to pay a high price in hopes of catching a lot of salmon.”
In Hokkaido, at its peak around 20 years ago, more than 50 million salmon were caught in the fall.
However, last year there were about 19 million fish, and recently it has become rare to catch them.
