高知県南国市こうちけんなんこくしの人ひとたちは毎年まいとし、「ごめんなさい」と謝あやまる気持きもちを書かいたはがきのコンクールを開ひらいています

Every year, the people of Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture hold a contest to write postcards expressing their apologies.

南国市なんこくしには「後免（ごめん）」という名前なまえの所ところがあるからです

There is a place in Nankoku City called ”Gomen”.

今年ことしも日本にっぽんのいろいろな所ところからはがきが届とどきました

Postcards arrived from various parts of Japan this year as well.

集あつまった1688枚まいの中なかから、賞しょうを決きめました

The prize was chosen from among the 1,688 entries collected.

1番ばんの賞しょうになったはがきには、亡なくなったおばあさんに51年ねん前まえのことを謝あやまる気持きもちが書かいてあります

When the man who wrote the postcard was in junior high school, an old lady brought him a lunch box at the school’s sports day.

はがきを書かいた男性だんせいが中学生ちゅうがくせいのとき、学校がっこうの運動会うんどうかいでおばあさんが弁当べんとうを届とどけてくれました

However, I felt embarrassed and let the old woman go home.

しかし、恥はずかしい気持きもちがあっておばあさんを家いえに帰かえらせてしまいました

The man wrote on the postcard, ``Grandma, I’m so sorry.’’

男性だんせいは「ばあちゃん、本当ほんとうにごめんなさい」とはがきに書かきました

The person who held the contest said, ``I think it would make you feel better if you wrote the ’I’m sorry’ that you couldn’t say on a postcard.’’

コンクールを開ひらいた人ひとは「言いうことができなかった『ごめんなさい』をはがきに書かいたら、気持きもちが楽らくになると思おもいます」と話はなしました

When the man who wrote the postcard was in junior high school, his grandmother brought him a lunch box at the school’s sports day.

しかし、恥はずかしい気持きもちがあっておばあさんを家いえに帰かえらせてしまいました

However, he felt embarrassed and made his grandmother go home.

コンクールを開ひらいた人ひとは「言いうことができなかった『ごめんなさい』をはがきに書かいたら、気持きもちが楽らくになると思おもいます」と話はなしました

The people holding the contest said, writing on a postcard the ’sorry’ that you couldn’t say before, will make you feel at ease.
