Prices of goods are rising, and the number of families that don’t have enough food has increased.

The NGO Save the Children Japan provides free food to families raising children who are struggling to make ends meet.

冬休ふゆやすみに渡わたす食たべ物ものは、用意よういした5000より多おおい6700以上いじょうの家庭かていが申もうし込こみました

More than 6,700 families applied for food to be handed out over the winter holidays, more than the 5,000 people who prepared it.

申もうし込こんだ家庭かていに聞きくと、いちばん多おおい理由りゆうは「物ものの値段ねだんが上あがって、食たべ物ものを買かうお金かねがない」でした

When we asked families who applied, the most common reason was, ``The prices of things have gone up and we don’t have money to buy food.’’

55%の家庭かていが親おやの食事しょくじ、25%が子こどもの食事しょくじを少すくなくしていると答こたえました

55% of families said their parents were eating less, and 25% of their children were eating less.

東京都とうきょうとにある団体だんたいのフードバンク立川たちかわは、今年ことしの春はる、90ぐらいの家庭かていに食たべ物ものを渡わたしました

Food Bank Tachikawa, an organization in Tokyo, distributed food to about 90 families this spring.

12月がつは200ぐらいに増ふえました

In December, the number increased to about 200.

しかし、会社かいしゃなどから寄付きふしてもらった食たべ物ものは、去年きょねんの半分はんぶんぐらいです

However, the amount of food donated by companies and other organizations is about half of last year.

団体だんたいは「食たべ物ものなどが高たかくなって、困こまっている家庭かていが増ふえているのに、寄付きふが少すくなくなっています」と話はなしています

The organization says, ``Even though the number of families in need is increasing due to the rising cost of food, donations are decreasing.’’

During the winter holidays, instead of the expected 5000 hiuseholds, rather at least 6700 of them applied for the food distribution.

申もうし込こんだ家庭かていに聞きくと、いちばん多おおい理由りゆうは「物ものの値段ねだんが上あがって、食たべ物ものを買かうお金かねがない」でした

According to the applying households, the most common reason was not having money to buy food because of the rising cost of goods.

55% of the households reduce the parents’ meals, and 25% reduce the children’s.
