When Mt. Fuji erupts, a new plan to ``eliminate people who are late to evacuate’’
Prefectures such as Shizuoka, Yamanashi and Kanagawa have announced new plans for how to evacuate when Mt. Fuji erupts.
About 800,000 people living in the three prefectures need to be evacuated.
The Japan Meteorological Agency raises the volcanic alert level before an eruption or when there are more earthquakes.
As the level rises, people take refuge in nearby relatives houses or hotels.
In areas with a large population, if everyone evacuates by car, the roads will be congested and evacuation may be delayed.
If the Japan Meteorological Agency issues temporary information, people who have climbed Mt. Fuji will descend the mountain even if the ”volcanic alert level” is Level 1, which is the lowest.
