70% of children falling on the balcony cause a "football"
There are many accidents in which children fall from the balcony or windows of a home
According to the Consumer Safety Investigation Committee, over the 32 years up to 2024, there were 134 accidents in which children under the age of six fell through the balcony or windows, died.
There were 92 accidents that fell from the balcony, with the most common one being a 3-year-old.
There were 42 accidents that fell through the window, with the most common one-year-old child.
More than 70% of accidents have had footings that make it easy for children to climb, such as chairs and outdoor units with air conditioners.
Nakagawa, chairman of the Consumer Safety Research Committee, said, "It's a mistake to think that children don't climb high places.
Don't think that if your parents are careful, it's okay."
The investigation committee plans to ask businesses to create new, safe products to prevent children from falling.
