Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ease requirements for issuing short-term stay visas for Chinese nationals

The latest relaxation measures, announced in conjunction with Minister Iwano’s visit to China, include simplification of application procedures for short-term stay visas.
Specifically, we will abolish the rule that requires multiple entry tourist visas, which are valid for three years, to enter Japan within three months of obtaining them.
Additionally, the length of stay for group tourist visas will be changed from 15 days to 30 days.
These measures will be implemented as soon as arrangements are made.
The Chinese side has been waiving short-term visitor visas for Japanese people since last month, and the Japanese side will also implement easing measures in response.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says, ``As sentiment toward Japan worsens in China, we hope to have them visit Japan to help improve relations.’’
