The Season When Ice Goby Fishing is Popular in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
熊本県天草市の海に近い川では、毎年今ごろ、シロウオという小さい魚を昔と同じやり方で取ります
By the river near the sea of Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecure, people are cathcing a small white fish called the ice goby in the same way as the olden days around this time every year.
People can catch a lot of fish because the fish is coming back to the river to lay eggs.
When catching ice gobies, people make pathways that are easy to pass through for the fish in the river, then they put in a net called ”the Four-armed net” that is 2m in height and width.
And while looking closely at the river, they raise the net as soon as the ice gobies comes in.

The caught ice gobies are sold to the city’s fish stores.
The live fish is eaten as it is (Odorigui/”Dancing Eating”), or eat it as tempura.
