A Foreign Dance Troupe Have Begun Practice for Tokushima’s Awa Odori Festival

徳島市とくしましでは毎年まいとし8月がつに「阿波あわおどり」という有名ゆうめいなお祭まつりがあります

Every August in Tokushima, a famous Matsuri festival takes place called Awa Odori (Awa being the former name for Tokushima, and Odori from ’Odoru’ meaning ’to dance’).

太鼓たいこなどの音おとと一緒いっしょにたくさんの人ひとが踊おどります

Here, many people dance to the rhythm of Taiko Drums and such.

徳島県とくしまけんに住すんでいる外国人がいこくじんのグループが、お祭まつりに出でるために踊おどりの練習れんしゅうを始はじめました

A group of foreign residents, who live in Tokushima prefecture, have come out to start practicing the dance for the festival.

グループの名前なまえは「あらそわ連れん」で、徳島とくしまのことばで「争あらそってはいけない」という意味いみです

The group call themselves ’Arasowanen’, which in the local dialect means ’don’t fight’.

今年ことしの最初さいしょの練習れんしゅうには19人にんが集あつまりました

This year, nineteen people gathered for the first practice session.

そして、阿波あわおどりが上手じょうずな人ひとから、リズムに合あうように体からだを動うごかすことや、右みぎの足あしと手てを一緒いっしょに前まえに出だすことなどを教おしえてもらいました

And, following a skilled leader, they were taught, to the rhythm of Awaodori msuic, dance motions such as body movement, or extending their right hands & legs.

アメリカやカナダの人ひとは「難むずかしいですが、元気げんきに踊おどることができるように練習れんしゅうを頑張がんばりたいです」とか「みんなで一緒いっしょに踊おどるのがおもしろいです」と話はなしました

Speaking to American and Canadian group members, they said ’It’s difficult, but I want to work hard at this so I can give a lively dance performance’, and ’It’s amusing to see everyone dancing together’.

このグループは、8月がつ14日じゅうよっかに踊おどる予定よていです

The group plan to dance at the festival on August 14th.
