Tokyo Metro shares surge after IPO listing
地下鉄の東京メトロは23日、会社の株を上場しました
On Wed October 23rd, Tokyo Metro, which runs the subway, listed its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange
Listing on an exchange allows public buying and selling of shares
最初は買いたい人が多くて、値段が決まりませんでした
There were lots of interested buyers so where the stock would trade was still uncertain
After an hour of trading the Tokyo Metro shares were valued at 1630JPY per share
They closed even higher at 1739JPY per share
The company now has a market capitalization of over 1 trillion JPY

Of todays’s sellers, the central government and the Tokyo government sold half their holdings.
They sold their shares in order to raise cash to use towards revitalizating areas impacted by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake
