21日夕方、長野県須坂市で走行中の長野電鉄の普通列車に金属製のパイプでできた小屋が衝突して窓ガラスが割れるなどし、車内にいた乗客のうち長野市に住む56歳の会社員の男性が死亡したほか、50代と60代の男性2人も軽いけがをしました。

警察などによりますと、衝突した小屋はトラクターなどを入れるために線路脇の畑に設置されていたものとみられ、警察は強風で飛ばされたとみて調べています。

また当時、須坂市を含む長野県北部には「竜巻注意情報」が発表されていて、この列車は強風や雨の影響で2つ前の北須坂駅でいったん運転を見合わせ、およそ4分間停車したあと、運転を再開していたことが長野電鉄への取材でわかりました。
