Shohei Ohtanis opening series tickets for the Major League Baseball games held in Japan were illegally resold, leading to the arrest of a 54-year-old company president.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating on the suspicion that more than 60 tickets were illegally resold, resulting in profits of over 20 million yen.

The person arrested is Mr. Mamoru Kokubo 54, a company president living in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, there is suspicion of violating the Act on Prohibition of Unauthorized Ticket Resale, as 12 tickets worth 430,000 yen in total for the Dodgers vs. Cubs opening series held at Tokyo Dome this March, as well as exhibition games against the Giants and Hanshin, were illegally resold for a total of 7.89 million yen.

President Kokubo reportedly applied for the corporate allocation of the 6-game pack, which included two opening series games and four exhibition games sold as a set, under the names of several companies managed by himself or his relatives, and obtained 72 tickets.

Of these, it is believed that 62 tickets were listed on resale sites and resold for up to about 2 million yen per ticket, resulting in a profit of 21.8 million yen.

He admitted to the charges during questioning and stated, I repeatedly resold the items and used the proceeds to help with my companys cash flow, among other things.

In the midst of issues arising from the resale of sports event and concert tickets at high prices through resale sites and similar platforms, the Metropolitan Police Department is urging people to stop, stating, Illegal reselling will be punished, and purchasing tickets resold above face value encourages crime, so we ask that you refrain from doing so.
