Around 9:30 a.m. on the 27th, an explosion suddenly occurred at a construction site for a newly built house in Higashi-Kasai, Edogawa Ward. In addition to a construction vehicle being severely burned, the blast caused damage such as broken walls and windows to at least 38 houses and stores within a radius of about 100 meters.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department and other sources, ten people, including construction workers at the site and nearby residents, complained of sore throats and ear pain, but all of them suffered only minor injuries.

At the site, construction work was being carried out to drive piles for a new house, but according to investigators, a cylinder of acetylene gas, which is highly flammable and used for welding metal and other purposes, was found underground in a damaged condition.

It is possible that a cylinder was damaged during construction and the leaking gas caught fire, but it is not known why the cylinder was buried underground.
