Tomoka Takeuchi, who won a silver medal in snowboarding at the Sochi Olympics, held a press conference in Tokyo on the 29th, announcing that she aims to compete in next years Milano-Cortina dAmpezzo Games, which would mark her seventh consecutive Olympic appearance, and that she will retire after next season.

Takeyuchi won a silver medal in the womens parallel giant slalom at the Sochi Games, becoming the first Japanese woman to win a medal in snowboarding. At the Beijing Games three years ago, she made her sixth consecutive appearance at the Winter Olympics, the most by any Japanese woman, establishing herself as a leading figure in the sport.

After making his training session public in Chiyoda, Tokyo on the 29th, Takeuchi held a press conference.

In this statement, Takeuchi announced, I would like to inform you that I will retire from competition after the next Olympic season.

Over the past two years or so, as Ive had more pain and injuries, theres a part of me thats grown tired.

Around last summer, I started to think that, as an athlete, maybe the time had come for me to step back, so I indicated that I plan to retire at the end of next season.

On top of that, aiming for her seventh Olympic appearance at the Milano-Cortina Games, she said, I finished third at the World Cup in Switzerland this January, and it felt like God was telling me, Give it one more try.

I cant do it with half-hearted feelings, so for the rest of the season, I want to go for the win one more time, he said.

And although winning a gold medal at the Olympics is extremely difficult, its a big opportunity for me right now, so I want to go for the gold one more time, he said with determination.
