Around 1:30 p.m. on the 1st, at an intersection on a city road leading to a bridge over the Tomei Expressway in Hatsuo-cho, Chuo Ward, Hamamatsu City, a passenger car broke through the roadside fence and fell onto the expressway along the embankment.

According to the police, two children who were in the car that fell were taken to the hospital, but neither of them was injured.

According to the fire department, the children are 8 and 7 years old.

The police had been investigating the whereabouts of the driver who left the scene, and on the 2nd, they arrested Akiya Kurebayashi 47, an unemployed resident of Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture self-proclaimed, on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act for driving without a license, causing an accident, and abandoning the vehicle.

The suspects response to the charges has not been disclosed.

According to the police, on the morning of the 2nd, investigators found the suspect walking alone in the city. The suspect’s driver’s license had been revoked about 10 years ago, and the car he was driving was registered under someone else’s name.

The two children who were in the car are not believed to be the suspects family or relatives, but it is also not considered a case of abduction. The police are investigating the relationship, as well as the circumstances at the time and the details of how they left.
