After a night following record-breaking heavy rain, people whose homes were flooded in Meguro Ward, Tokyo, spent their time cleaning up. A woman in her seventies, whose house was submerged in about 5 centimeters of water, was wiping wet carpets and returning potted plants that had been washed away back to her garden since morning.

The woman said, Around 7 p.m. yesterday, the promenade in front of me turned into a river and muddy water flowed into my house. I was terrified.

Ive lived around here since I was a child, but this is the first time Ive seen damage like this, they said.

According to Meguro Ward, on the night of the 10th, the water level of the Meguro River rose, causing inland flooding as water could no longer flow into the Jakuzure River, a tributary that runs underground. As a result, damage such as flooding above and below floor level was confirmed in at least nine homes, and about ten more reports of damage have been received.

Also, on the promenade along the Jakuzure River, about one meter of brick pavement had peeled up, and staff were working to remove the bricks.

In Setagaya Ward, there was flooding damage to homes. According to Setagaya Ward, due to the record heavy rain on the night of the 10th, flooding above and below floor level was reported in 24 houses, and there was also flooding of homes in the Jyakuzure River basin, a tributary of the Meguro River.

In the footage taken around 7 p.m. on the 10th, the road in the residential area looks like a river, and you can see that it is submerged up to the height of the car headlights.

A woman in her 50s who lives nearby said, The sound of the rain was so loud that my dog kept barking.
