At Todaimae Station on the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, in the incident where a 43-year-old suspect was arrested for slashing a university student passenger, it has newly come to light through interviews with investigators that the suspect stated, I thought that if I caused an incident at the station, the trains would stop and it would have a big impact on society.

The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the details of the incident.

Nagano Prefecture Ikusaka Village resident, unemployed Yoshitaka Toda 43, is suspected of attempted murder and violation of the Swords and Firearms Control Law for suddenly slashing a 20-year-old university student with a knife and injuring him as the student was trying to board a train on the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line at Todaimae Station in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, on the 7th of this month.

According to the Metropolitan Police Departments investigation, he said, Because of my overly enthusiastic parents, I had a hard time in junior high school and stopped attending.

He reportedly stated, By causing an incident in front of the University of Tokyo, I wanted to show parents in society that if they go too far, their children may end up committing crimes.

Furthermore, it has been newly learned from interviews with investigators that he made a statement to the effect of, If I cause an incident at the station, the trains will be stopped for a long time and I can have a big impact on society, and if I attack people in a confined space, I thought they wouldnt be able to escape.

The suspect reportedly brought two kitchen knives from home and traveled by train from Nagano Prefecture to Tokyo on the day of the incident. The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the details of the case.
