The Liberal Democratic Party’s Tax Research Commission plans to hold a study session on the consumption tax for party members next week. Ahead of this, a meeting of executives was held, attended by about 20 people.

At the beginning, Chairman Miyazawa of the Tax System Research Council said, There are many calls from the opposition parties for a reduction in the consumption tax, and there are also some such voices within the Liberal Democratic Party.

The Tax Commission plans to discuss at next weeks study session topics such as the impact of lowering the consumption tax rate, given that consumption tax revenue serves as a source of funding for social security and other programs, as well as practical issues like the increased administrative burden that comes with changing the tax rate.
