A car drove the wrong way on the Shin-Meishin Expressway in Mie Prefecture, causing an accident that involved vehicles trying to avoid it. On the 18th of this month, on the outbound lane of the Shin-Meishin Expressway in Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture, a passenger car was driving in the wrong direction and collided with another vehicle. As other cars tried to avoid the accident, a following car rear-ended the line of cars, resulting in injuries to four people.

Police have arrested Rossi Cruz John Elias, a 34-year-old Peruvian national and company employee from Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, on suspicion of hit-and-run involving two cars.

The suspect was reportedly driving west before the accident, made a U-turn on the main road in Shiga Prefecture, and began driving in the wrong direction. However, according to interviews with investigators, it was learned that before his arrest, he explained that he took the wrong road.

The suspect switched a foreign drivers license to a Japanese one more than five years ago, and according to investigators and others, it appears that at the time, the suspect was driving with their cousin in the car, heading toward Yokkaichi City in Mie Prefecture from the Nagoya area.

The police are investigating the possibility that the suspect made a U-turn and drove the wrong way after entering Shiga Prefecture, trying to forcefully turn back.
