In an accident where a medical transport helicopter was found capsized off the coast of Iki, Nagasaki Prefecture, resulting in the death of three people, the captain told the company that there was an unusual noise from the rear.

On the 6th of this month, a medical transport helicopter heading from Tsushima Airport in Nagasaki Prefecture to a hospital in Fukuoka City was found capsized in the sea off Iki. In the accident, three people, including a patient and a doctor, died, and three others, including the pilot and a mechanic, are receiving treatment.

Regarding the situation at the time of the accident, it was learned from interviews with those involved that a representative from SGC Saga Aviation in Saga City, which operated the helicopter, conducted a hearing with the captain, who stated that there was an unusual noise from the rear at around 150 meters altitude.

Regarding the unusual noise, it was described as a sound like metal being torn apart, like something being sucked in a toilet, a sound never heard before.

Furthermore, it is said that immediately after the strange noise, the altitude began to decrease, so I focused on controlling the aircraft.

The aircraft was unloaded on the 10th, and an investigation by the Japan Transport Safety Board revealed that it is believed to have tilted to the right while the rotor was rotating when it landed on water.

The Japan Transport Safety Board is continuing to investigate the detailed cause of the accident, including examining the aircraft on the 11th.
