Around 10 p.m. on the 26th, an accident occurred on the northbound lanes of the Tohoku Expressway in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, where a car driving in the wrong direction collided with several other vehicles one after another.

According to the police, the accident occurred in two locations. After the wrong-way car had a collision with one vehicle, it continued driving for about two kilometers, then had a head-on collision with another car and also crashed into two other vehicles.

In this accident, the male driver in his 40s who was driving the wrong way and the male driver in his 50s who was driving the car that was hit both died.

Also, in the vicinity, a rear-end collision involving six vehicles, including large trucks, occurred due to the traffic jam caused by this accident, and a woman in her 60s who was in one of the rear-ended cars died.

Several other people have also been taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the police are investigating the details of the situation.

The closure on the northbound lanes has been lifted. Due to an accident, the northbound lanes of the Tohoku Expressway between the Nasu Interchange in Nasu Town and the Kuroiso-Itamuro Interchange in Nasushiobara City had been closed, but the closure was lifted at 6:30 a.m. just a short while ago.
