In January of this year, at a kendo class held in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, a 53-year-old former instructor was referred to prosecutors by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of assault after he struck a first-grade girl on the head from behind with a wooden sword, causing a concussion and other injuries, according to interviews with investigators.

書類送検されたのは、東京 足立区で、剣道の愛好者や子どもたち向けに開かれている剣道教室の53歳の男の元指導員です。
The person who was referred to the prosecutors is a 53-year-old former instructor at a kendo class in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, which is held for kendo enthusiasts and children.
捜査関係者によりますと、ことし1月、小学校の体育館で行われた練習で当時小学1年の女の子の頭をいきなり後ろから木刀でたたき、けがをさせたとして傷害の疑いが持たれています。
According to investigators, in January of this year, during a practice session held in an elementary school gymnasium, a first-grade girl was suddenly struck on the head from behind with a wooden sword, causing injury. The suspect is being investigated on suspicion of assault.
女の子は頭に防具をつけていましたが、吐き気などを訴えて病院で手当てを受け、脳しんとうと打撲で長期の経過観察が必要だという医師の診断を受けたということです。
The girl was wearing protective gear on her head, but after complaining of nausea and other symptoms, she received medical treatment at the hospital and was diagnosed by a doctor as having a concussion and bruises, requiring long-term observation.
元指導員は調べに対して行為を認め、「腕が正しく上がっていないことを女の子に教えるためだったが、間違った指導だった」などと供述しているということです。
The former instructor admitted to the act during questioning, reportedly stating, I did it to show the girl that her arm wasnt being raised correctly, but it was improper instruction.
剣道教室の関係者によりますと、元指導員は以前から子どもたちに罵声を浴びせる姿などがたびたび見られたといい、今回の女の子への暴行について事実関係を調査した東京都剣道連盟は、ことし3月、元指導員について、指導や大会への参加などができなくなる2年間の会員資格停止処分にしています。
According to people involved with the kendo class, the former instructor had often been seen yelling at the children, and regarding the recent assault on the girl, the Tokyo Kendo Federation, which investigated the facts, suspended the former instructors membership for two years from March this year, prohibiting them from teaching or participating in tournaments.
両親「絶対に許せない」
NHKの取材に応じた両親によりますと、当日、ほかの子どもを教えていた元指導員が、「手が上がっていない」などと突然声を出し、後ろから女の子の頭をたたいたということです。
The parents said, We absolutely cannot forgive this. According to the parents who spoke to NHK, on that day, the former instructor who was teaching other children suddenly shouted things like, Youre not raising your hand, and hit the girl on the head from behind.
女の子はその後も練習を続けましたが、休憩時間に気分が悪いと訴えておう吐し、自宅に戻ってからも体がけいれんするなどの症状が出たということです。
The girl continued practicing after that, but during a break she complained of feeling unwell and vomited, and even after returning home, she experienced symptoms such as convulsions.
両親によると、元指導員による行きすぎた指導は以前から見られ、女の子について「きょうの稽古でしめてやる」などと親にLINEのメッセージを送ってきたこともあったということです。
According to the parents, excessive instruction by the former coach had been observed before, and there were even times when the coach sent messages to the parents on LINE saying things like, Ill discipline her in todays practice.
母親は「暴行を見た時は1年生の女の子に対してまさかという気持ちでした。
