Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, the eldest daughter of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, attended the opening ceremony of an international conference on disaster medicine and, for the first time, delivered a speech at the ceremony in front of researchers from various countries.

As a contract employee at the Japanese Red Cross Society, Princess Aiko arrived at a hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, shortly after 8:30 a.m. on the 3rd and attended the opening ceremony of the World Congress on Disaster and Emergency Medicine, which is held every two years to share the latest knowledge on disaster medicine and strengthen international cooperation.

Approximately 600 people, including researchers and medical professionals, attended the ceremony. After greetings from the organizers and others, Princess Aiko delivered her address.

This was Princess Aikos first speech at the ceremony, and she said, In Japan, which has experienced numerous major disasters, including the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake, the disaster medical system has been transformed and evolved from various perspectives.

On top of that, he said, This conference is a valuable opportunity to share those experiences, as well as the knowledge and technologies gained so far. I believe it will serve as a meaningful occasion to promote further international cooperation, and also as an opportunity to pass on your wealth of experience and knowledge to the younger generation who will lead the coming era.

At the venue, messages from Prime Minister Ishiba and executives of the WHO World Health Organization were also presented, and Princess Aiko received applause.
