Jizo statue that became a bridge
Once upon a time, there lived an old woman in a village called Ono in Hyogo.
There was a small river near the grandmother's house, and an old Jizo statue stood beyond it.
My grandmother used to cross the river every day to visit the Jizo statue.
Jizo was an important companion for the grandmother.
One day, the old woman hurt her back and couldn't move.
I could barely make a meal, so I couldn't go see the Jizo statue.
A few days later, the old woman felt a little better and went to the Jizo statue using a cane.
There was a lot of grass growing around the Jizo statue.
The old woman put up with her back pain and pulled out the grass.
By the time we finished, it was already evening.
I tried to go home, but my back hurts and I can't cross the river.
When I was in trouble, I heard a voice from behind me saying, ``I'll give it to you.''
When I turned around, the Jizo statue was walking towards me and lying down on the river like a bridge.
The old woman said, ``I can't step on Jizo,'' but Jizo said, ``My lower back hurts from standing for a long time, so please step on my lower back.''
The old woman took off her sandals and gingerly walked over the Jizo statue.
Then, miraculously, the pain in the grandmother's lower back completely disappeared.
After that, the grandmother visited the Jizo statue every day again.
This story spread among the villagers, and many people came from far away to visit the Jizo statue.
