There was a ceremony to pray for peace in a park in Hiroshima City.
About 50,000 people gathered, including representatives from 111 countries, the largest number ever.
Then, at 8:15 am, when the atomic bomb was dropped, we all prayed quietly.
There are countries in the world where Russia threatens to use nuclear weapons and strongly believes that nuclear weapons are necessary to keep the peace.
Hiroshima Mayor Matsui said at the ceremony, ``It is important for the leaders of countries around the world to know that this way of thinking is not useful, and to stop it.’’
At the ceremony, two elementary school students from Hiroshima said, ”We, living in Hiroshima, will create a future where everyone thinks that there is peace.”
