In December of this year, a system will begin to protect people who have fled from countries where war continues, in the same way as refugees.
Even if they do not meet the refugee requirements, we protect people whose lives are at risk if they return to their home country, so that they can live peacefully in Japan.
If you are recognized as a person in need of protection, you can stay in Japan for 5 years as a ”long-term resident”.

Those who wish to be recognized as needing protection should apply to the Immigration Bureau from December 1st.
The government will start this system to help people evacuated from Ukraine and others to live calmly in Japan.
