In Thailand, one of the world’s leading producers of marine plastic waste, a research team from Japanese and Thai universities has begun a new investigation to uncover the sources of waste.
On the 18th, a research team from Kyushu University and other institutions collected plastic trash found in the water and mud on the riverbed in a river near the capital Bangkok.
The world still does not know where and how much marine plastic waste is generated.
For this reason, the research team has not only carried out surveys in the sea, but also embarked on a survey in rivers, which is considered to be one of the sources of the outbreak, for the first time.
In the future, we hope to investigate the components of the collected plastic and help clarify the source of the garbage.
It is estimated that Thailand has the 6th largest amount of marine plastic waste in the world.
