Former vice principal ordered to pay a large settlement after an incident where a teacher was shot by a 6 year old boy at an American elementary school.
In 2023, in the state of Virginia, there was an incident where a 6 year old elementary schooler shot a teacher with a gun.
The vice principal at the time dismissed warnings of the child possibly having a gun even after the teacher had brought it to the vice principals attention.
At the trial, the vice principal was ordered to pay $10,000,000 dollars.
The incident occurred in January of 2023.
The teacher was shot in the chest and hand when he was reading a book in the classroom.
The teacher's lawyer stated that "Safety is the school's number one priority."
The vice principal will attend any future criminal trials.
Even though it was the responsibility of the vice principal to protect the children, it was determined that the vice principal did not do that.
This case has become an important example of who should be held responsible when children use guns in schools.
In America, many gun related incidents have already occurred this year.
Particularly increasing incidents in elementary and middle schools.
