New LRT starts operation in Tochigi Prefecture
A new type of tram called LRT is said to run on electricity and is good for the environment.
26日、栃木県で新しいLRTの運転が始まりました
On the 26th, a new LRT began operating in Tochigi Prefecture.
It runs 14.6km between Utsunomiya Station and Hagacho in about 50 minutes.
It is the first LRT in Japan with all new tracks.
28日は運転が始まってから初めての平日でした
The 28th was the first weekday since the operation started.
At Utsunomiya Station, people started lining up at around 7am, waiting for the train.
高校生は「前はバスを使っていました
A high school student said, ”I used to use the bus
I don’t think the LRT will be too late, so I think I can get to school early.”
A man who got on to go to work said, ”I’m glad it didn’t shake when it stopped at the station.”
日本では、75年前から新しい路面電車ができていませんでした
